While known throughout the land down under as the producer of Mobil synthetic engine oil and Mobil fully-synthetic oil, ExxonMobil is a corporation that cares about Australia’s local communities and economy as well. Although ExxonMobil is a large corporation with a presence all over the world, it still makes great efforts to become a part of small-town life in Australia. For example, ExxonMobil has been running one of the largest, most successful refineries in Australia for more than 60 years. The Altona Refinery in Victoria has become one of the most significant industrial facilities on the entire continent.
The Altona Refinery opened in Victoria in 1949, and in 2009, the company celebrated its 60th anniversary at the site. As a significant job provider and booster to the local economy, the Altona Refinery is one of the most important industrial facilities in Victoria and dare we say, in all of Australia. It provides half of Victoria’s fuel needs, so it is an extremely important factor in the local economy. In addition, the refinery pays millions of dollars each year in taxes to the local government, which in turn supports public entities such as schools, libraries and other publicly-run organizations. The refinery directly employs 350 people from the local area, and it indirectly supports thousands of other jobs in the greater Victoria region. Because ExxonMobil is committed to the communities that is resides in and serves, the Altona Refinery has donated millions of dollars over the years to local schools, hospitals and non-profit organizations. As one of the largest oil refineries in the country, it has a capacity of 80,000 barrels each day.
Many companies may claim that they are committed to providing for the local economy and serving the local residents, but ExxonMobil can prove it. The Altona Refinery, with more than 60 years in the state of Victoria, is living, breathing proof that ExxonMobil is dedicated to the local citizens while still dominating the global economy. This magnificent refinery, which provides hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars for the local economy, is a model for what ExxonMobil is trying to accomplish throughout the entire world. It is a refinery of which the residents of Victoria and all of Australia can be truly proud.
